An Embodied approach to Psychedelic Medicine: Preparation, Facilitation, and Integration.

Psychedelics and somatics combined are one of the most powerful forces for releasing trauma as they yield through the protective and defensive mechanisms that prevent an individual from healing. Somatic Psychedelic practices provide a profound connection to the primal body, where true liberation occurs.

BENEFITS OF PSYCHEDELIC-ASSISTED THERAPY

In recent years the use of psychedelics and plant medicines in therapy has experienced a renaissance and is now in full bloom with research and practice taking place all over the world on how these medicines can treat a range of conditions including PTSD, depression, anxiety, eating disorders and addiction.

Research has also shown that psychedelic-assisted therapy reduces the impact of grief, depression, and anxiety - especially when other methods of treatment have failed. They also induce neuroplasticity, the brain’s ability to change and reorganize thought patterns, enabling people with psychological disorders to find new ways to process anxiety, depression or deeply embedded trauma.

Psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy has now become part of the mainstream and evidence exists for its significant impact on trauma healing and its applications for therapy, counseling, psychology, and activism.

“Trauma is at the root of so much of our pain and what holds us back from thriving.  Somatic psychedelic treatment is one of the most comprehensive and fast-acting modalities in healing trauma, deepening our embodiment, and rewiring relationships,” — Dr Devon Christie.

People often report spiritual experiences and that life becomes much more meaningful after an experience with psychedelics. Evidence also suggests that psychedelic-assisted therapy can improve connections with others, increase tolerance, understanding and empathy, as well as deepen intimacy and trust in relationships.

Above all, research suggests that the power of psychedelic-assisted therapy is that it doesn’t just offer relief of symptoms, but instead offers the potential for permanent healing of previously intractable and persistent symptoms and conditions.

BENEFITS OF SOMATIC HEALING

Soma’ is a Greek word for ‘the living body known from within’, or known to the Self. This ‘knowing’ signifies wholeness. Somatic therapy is an experiential approach towards mind-body integration. The pain, overwhelm, and coping responses manifested by trauma take us away from feeling at home in our body, and as a result there is often a split within ourselves.

Somatic Therapy supports:

  • Restore the body as a place of safety while helping to expand the capacity to process body (preverbal and nonverbal) memory

  • Metabolize unprocessed emotions

  • Complete thwarted (incomplete) stress responses

  • Restore our optimal relationship to our self and the world around us

Somatic trauma therapy offers techniques for clients to sense and regulate their own physiology and states of being. This includes building more internal and external resources, building trusting and co-regulatory relationships, learning to turn inward with compassion, being invited deeper into the body, and being given time and space to process the trauma. These somatic techniques unwind trauma and restore well-being.

A UNIFIED APPROACH BETWEEN SOMATICS & PSYCHEDELICS

A unified approach between Somatics and Psychedelic-Assisted Therapy offer a holistic approach to healing and trauma resolution.

In psychedelic-assisted therapies and plant medicine ceremonies, individuals often encounter profound and intense emotional and psychological experiences. Somatic techniques, such as breathwork, movement, and body awareness, play a crucial role in supporting the integration of these experiences. The heightened state of awareness induced by psychedelics can amplify the connection between the mind and body, making somatic interventions particularly potent during and after psychedelic sessions. By attuning to bodily sensations and expressions, individuals can navigate and process unresolved trauma stored in the body, promoting a more comprehensive and enduring healing process.

The somatic approach within psychedelic-assisted therapy and plant medicine ceremonies offers a bridge between the cognitive and emotional realms, enhancing the integration of insights gained during psychedelic experiences. This integration is pivotal for sustained healing, as it helps individuals translate profound realizations into tangible changes in their daily lives. Ultimately, the synergy between somatic psychology and psychedelic-assisted therapy offers a profound opportunity for individuals to embark on a transformative journey toward holistic well-being.

Teagan’s Commitment + Ethical Values in Psychedelic Facilitation

  • Upholding the Sacred – To maintain and uphold the historical use, relationship and engagement with psychedelic medicines. As psychedelic assisted medicine becomes more popularized in the western mental health model, it is Teagan’s commitment to the medicines themselves that we do not lose sight of the sacred. These medicines have been engaged with for thousands of years through indigenous traditions, and carry their own cosmology in regards to healing work. It is of utmost ethical value that this sacred intent is upheld through the informed, ceremonial approach to this work, with deep acknowledgement and respect for the traditions that have stewarded it for centuries.

  • Right Relationship –These plant medicines are sacred, powerful teachers and guides on the journey of healing. Teagan’s personal approach to working with these allies is not through a prescriptive western medical model, yet through the lens of stewardship and right relationship. We are working with plants that carry their own consciousness, in deep respect for the opportunity to merge them with our own, to bring forth healing awareness. It is a privilege to have access to these medicines, and Teagan does her best to uphold that sacred reciprocity in the spaces held.

  • Spiritual + Psychological Support – To create an informed, therapeutically adept space to maneuver experiences of both psychological and spiritual exploration. Teagan has years of experience as a Somatic Practitioner with a Trauma-informed approach, confident in navigating the layers of healing work that have the potential to arise through working with psychedelic medicine. Teagan also has years of experience in working with plant medicines personally, alongside a rich relationship to various spiritual frameworks that support the navigation of existential considerations that can arise through altered states of consciousness. Teagan’s experience supports the preparation, facilitation, and ongoing integration of the work.

Working Together…

There are many pathways to entering into this work together. If we’ve never worked together before, my suggestion is to create a solid process of preparation, facilitation, and integration sessions over the course of 1-2 months. Here are some suggested pathways…

FULL SUPPORT PACKAGE:

  • Intake Session: in our first meeting, we will discuss your mental, physical + emotional history in depth, to gain an understanding of the unique context we’ll be exploring, in collaboration with the medicine.

  • Preparatory Sessions: 2-3 sessions of preparatory work are suggested to begin to set intention and prepare the mind, body and spirit for this beautiful journey work. These sessions can be oriented around Somatic Healing, Reiki Energy Medicine, Subtle Bodywork, Ancestral Healing or Ceremonial work with Hapé/Cacao. The nature of these prep sessions will depend on the unique needs + intention of the individual.

  • Journey Day: A Full day of working with the plant medicine. This can be anywhere between 4-7 hours in full, with time for both opening + closing ceremony. The container is held with Teagan alongside for the entire journey, holding the sacred ceremonial intent and supporting you as an ally in the process.

  • Integration Sessions: 2-6 sessions of integration are suggested over the following days and weeks of your journey. This allows for ongoing integration, as this is only the beginning of the insights the medicine will continue to bring to your awareness. Weekly or biweekly sessions are suggested, with two sessions occuring within the first week of your integration process.

Please message Teagan to discuss packages and pathways to working together. All options are offered at a sliding scale rate, to support the ongoing process of your journey. Folx of Indigenous North + South American ancestry are always offered an optional donation-base or pay-as-you-wish for this work.

TESTIMONIALS

  • Teagan is an incredibly present and talented healer with a vast archive of wisdom to share. It is apparent that her work is rooted in both tender devotional experience - and a clear commitment to scholarship in her fields of study. She made reiki so approachable for me when I was new to the experience, and has continued to open my eyes to what good medicine can look and feel like outside of a western approach. I highly recommend her frequently to friends, family, and clientele in my own business. Very grateful for my continued experiences working with Teagan and always looking forward to learning more from her!

  • So blessed to have met Teagan on my path. For multitude of reasons. Teagan is a true healer, a sacred space holder, and a powerful spirit channel…And this is coming from a ration-driven skeptic like me: if you truly want to heal and get better, just give yourself a chance and contact Teagan, and trust the healing process. My health (both physical and mental), and my life have definitely been healed, transformed, and improved by Teagan and her skilful healing practices. Much honour and gratitude!
