15" Horse skin drum -- Otter Medicine
This piece was handmade with love in ceremonial space on September 5th, 2023. It is a rich brown horse skin, on a 15” drum frame. It has a warm, bright sound, great for singing along with the beat of the drum.
The animal medicine that came through associated with this drum was Otter, which is the generous heart of the woman’s medicine. Otter spirit resembles the virtuous, kind and welcoming women of the community, that make space for all to share their gifts with the world. In the Annishaanabe creation story, Otter was the animal spirit that called to each of the Four Directions, so the first peoples could receive guidance to live in harmony & partnership with the forces of the Earth.
All the materials to make this drum are ethically-sourced from a Native tannery in the Northwest.
